Half Board
Dahab is easily accessible from the UK- being just 5 hours away by air and then a one hour transfer (80k) from Sharm el Sheikh. It is world renowned for it’s beautiful scenery and climate, along with typical restaurants along the promenade in Dahab town. There are a wide variety of hotels available, ranging from 3* to 5* resorts and is able to suit most budgets. It offers a more relaxed holiday than some other resorts, and is less touristy so will give you a more authentic Egyptian feel.
The climate is another draw to Dahab. Being on the south-eastern coast of the Sinai Peninsula it has very hot summers- the temperatures can reach 40 degrees in August! In the winter is a little cooler- generally between 22 and 28 degrees. It is a very dry heat though, so doesn’t feel too uncomfortable and there is of course a pleasant breeze to cool you down! Rain is very rare here, so it’s perfect to get away from the UK especially if we have had a really wet summer!
The kiting here is action packed whilst on the water- there are freestyle, slalom and wave riding all on your doorstep. If you want to chill out after a hard days kiting, there are bars along the water-front where you can wind down. If you are craving something a little more heady, then a short taxi ride away is the town of Masbat where there are a host of restaurants and bars along with a few nightclubs.
The wind in Dahab tends to blow cross off-shore to offshore at the Hilton and sideshore at Le Meridien. It also has a great reputation for being a perfect place to teach kids how to kitesurf. There tends to be early morning light winds with the wind increasing towards the end of the day- a few of the kiteschools also have specialised equipment for teaching little ones, they can to take them from around 5 years old depending on weight more than age
Most of the rooms are sold on a bed and breakfast basis, but you can upgrade to all-inclusive or full board if required. For those who want to have a change of scenery then the town of Masbat is just a short taxi ride away where there are a host of restaurants and bars to suit everyone’s different taste and budget.
The rooms at The Hilton come in 3 different types: Guest rooms, Suites or Executive rooms. They are all of a good size and can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children quite comfortably.
Two great centres for kiting, there is the tidal beginner lagoon which is great for learning the basics in your comfort zone. Alternatively, there is the deep water spot downwind in the lagoon with plenty of space and a safety beach you will land at if things dont go to plan! Fantastic tuition from English and English speaking instructors will have you flying over the water in no time. There is a boat service that runs between the two locations and a 3km downwinder first thing in the morning, what a way to start the day.
Outside of the lagoon there is what is known as 'speedy', a glassy flat water strip in the lee of a sand spit for slalom or freestyle at baby bay which is at the end of it. Beyond this, through the Napolean Reef, is the Gulf of Aqaba and a big rolling swell, grab a buddy and play in the waves.
Full rescue cover is of course provided and walkie talkies available.
There is the main centre, known as centre 1 and overlooking the shallow beginners lagoon with a restaurant and bar on site for refreshments. Fully stocked with Cabrinha kit and multi lingual instructors to get your flying skills underway then its on to the water. The lagoon is tidal so lesson times can sometimes vary. Centre 4, 3 km downwind is a deep water location for intermediates and advanced rides, its a cross shore wind here giving long runs out to speedy. There is a floating jetty over the reef to launch from, either dock starts or from the water.
